A banner with Future Machine - The Journeys 2020 - 2050 and a map of England with QR codes and symbols for each place where Future Machine visits. Alongside someone looking at the Cabinet of Curious Places

A large banner, influenced by traditional Trade Union and Suffragette banners, with embroidered QR codes linking to the When The Future Comes website on a map of England, tells the story of the Future Machine’s appearances in 5 places across the country as the seasons change, from 2020… hopefully until 2050.

The Future Machine banner was originally created to be displayed alongside the ‘Cabinet of Curious Places’ – a mobile installation that told the story of Future Machine & When the Future Comes with objects created and brought together by the artists involved in the project.

The Future Machine banner has been exhibited at:
The Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham as part of the Wild Isles exhibition in March 2024
Primary Studios as part of the Nourishment Programme in April 2024
Derby Cathedral as part of Our Stories Are Wild, curated by Caroline Locke for the University of Derby, in July 2024
Commons/Jamboree Hut as part of When the Autumn Leaves Fall & The Commons Residency Project from November 2024 – March 2025
Christ Church Gardens, When These Trees Blossom and Future Machine appeared in April 2025
The Footprint, Windermere, Cumbria as part of the Great Big Green Week Launch in June 2025

Rachel is now working on separate banners that tell stories about Finsbury Park, Christ Church Gardens and the Windermere-Leven watershed and co-creating banners as part of her workshops and convivial gatherings.
